After having their tourism industry forced shut by a volcanic eruption earlier this year, St Vincent and the Grenadines is optimistic that the sector will begin to thrive again with the arrival of visitors from both air and sea.
The southern Caribbean nation of islands is set to receive an inaugural Virgin Atlantic flight during the 2021 peak winter tourism season, flying three times a week from London Heathrow (LHR) to Hewanorra International Airport (UVF).
The destination is hopeful that it will also see the return of American Airlines, Caribbean Airlines and Air Canada later this year.
However airline passengers aren’t the only visitors the destination expects. St Vincent and the Grenadines has received roughly 224 calls to the island for stopovers this cruise season, bringing much joy after the devastation caused by the eruption in April 2021.
With COVID-19 cruise protocols and safe zones in place, the tourist destination says cruise visitors will be able disembark these ships and enjoy the beauty of their island while remaining safe.
