The Turks and Caicos Islands proudly welcomed the inaugural American Airlines flight to South Caicos on Saturday, March 15th, marking a historic moment for the destination and its residents. The inaugural flight was greeted by a traditional water cannon salute at the Norman B Saunders International Airport.
During an accompanying ceremony, the importance of this development to South Caicos was highlighted by many speakers. These included Premier Charles Washington Missick who said, in a pre-recorded message, that it is the dawn of a new era.
“For too long, South Caicos has remained a hidden gem, rich in heritage, culture and untapped potential but today we open our doors wider than ever before. This direct international flight is a game changer. It means more visitors are discovering our pristine beauty, more businesses are finding new opportunities and more investment is flowing into our beloved island,” he said.

Among those on the historic flight, AA3815, were Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam; Minister of Tourism Zhavargo Jolly; Member of Parliament for South Caicos Tamell Seymour; and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Wesley Clerveaux.
“Just a few weeks ago, we gathered to celebrate the arrival of a cargo vessel that promised enhanced trade and economic opportunities for the people of South Caicos. Today we take another bold step introducing direct international flights for South Caicos. This achievement will not only boost tourism but also create jobs, stimulate investment and breathe new life into the local economy,” said Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure, Arlington Musgrove.

The tourism minister, who grew up in South Caicos, spoke of how the area has been transformed over the years.
“We remember when South Caicos was the thriving heart of commerce in the Turks and Caicos Islands — full of life, industry, and opportunity. Over the years, we’ve seen the island face challenges, but today is different. Today, South Caicos stands ready for a new beginning. This direct international flight is not just a symbol of progress; it’s a clear message to the world that South Caicos is back, stronger and more vibrant than ever. This moment is for the hardworking people of South Caicos, whose resilience and spirit have always been the island’s greatest strength. Today, we step into a future of growth, opportunity, and renewed pride,” said Minister Jolly.
The inaugural flight is the result of collaboration among multiple Government agencies and stakeholders, led by the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA), along with Salterra, the newest hotel on South Caicos, which opened on March 8th, 2025.
“As part of our more than 30-year commitment with Turks and Caicos, today we are proud to launch service to South Caicos, complementing American Airlines’ already robust operation in Providenciales,” said José María Giraldo, AA’s Managing Director for Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Canada. “As the only U.S. carrier operating in South Caicos and the largest U.S. airline in Turks and Caicos, we are excited to open the doors of this beautiful destination to the world, offering nonstop service to American’s largest international gateway in Miami.”
American Airlines will operate twice-weekly flights to South Caicos on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
