The Lufthansa Group’s new vacation airline, Eurowings Discover, now offers direct flights from Frankfurt to Montego Bay. There will be two weekly non-stop services on Wednesdays and Saturdays with scheduled arrival at 5:50 pm and return flights at 7:50 pm.

The inaugural flight into Montego Bay arrived on November 3. Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is the busiest by passenger in Germany and fourth busiest in Europe. Sangster International Airport (SIA), Jamaica’s leading gateway to the world, is operated by MBJ Airports Limited.

Eurowings Discover is a new carrier and is a separate and distinct entity from Eurowings which operated in the past. It takes travellers to the world’s most beautiful short, medium and long haul destinations and will also operate out of Munich as of summer 2022.

As part of the Lufthansa network, travellers can benefit from direct connections and seamless transfers to and from all German and European Lufthansa destinations, as well as an end-to-end booking process.

For the inaugural flight into Montego Bay, crew and passengers received a warm welcome by German Ambassador to Jamaica, Dr Stefan Friedrich Keil; Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Richard Vernon; Chair of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association’s Montego Bay Chapter, Nadine Spence; Odette Dyer and Gregory Shervington of the Jamaica Tourist Board; Joy Roberts of Jamaica Vacations Ltd and representatives from MBJ, along with the melodious sounds of live entertainment courtesy of a local Mento Band.

“This new service… highlights travel’s continued rebound within the European sector for the rest of 2021 and beyond,” said MBJ Airports Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Shane Munroe, who added that he was pleased with the addition of the flight.

President and CEO of Airports Authority of Jamaica, Audley Deidrick, commended the MBJ team for its role in the launch.

“I… look forward to its successful operation on the route. This additional airline service will give our aviation and tourism industry a further boost from the European market, as we continue to recover from the COVID-19 Pandemic,” he said.

Rupert Kraus, Head of Network Planning & Airport Relations of Eurowings Discover, who was on the first flight to Montego Bay, noted its significance.

“It is with excitement and enthusiasm that our new airline took off to its very first flight to Montego Bay. With the easing of travel restrictions and our direct connection, tourists from all over Germany and Europe can once again enjoy the friendly hospitality and beautiful landscape, which Jamaica has to offer,” he said. “It is a great addition to our current portfolio and we are happy to support the recovery of tourism in Jamaica.”
