Not unlike Archimedes we are screaming Eureka! Unlike his discovery though, ours is pure gold! Or maybe it’s better described as a hidden gem for those who know, and for those who will soon discover — as we have. The gem we speak of is Bellefield.
The opening line on their website confirms it… “Tucked away in the hills of Montego Bay, Jamaica, this beautiful gem offers the experience of the ‘real Jamaica’. This magnificent venue, one of Jamaica’s oldest sugar plantations, is set on a pristine 10 acres,” it explains for those not yet lucky enough to be familiar with the property.
We took some time out, one slightly overcast Sunday afternoon, to explore the multiple façades of this gem. We were not disappointed by the spectacular estate which is available for weddings and other memory-making events, as well as history-filled tours. Its location is one of the big drawing cards for locals and visitors alike. Think garden setting on a historic plantation with untouched areas and a 300-year-old guango tree.
The Bellefield brand includes Bellefield Bakery as well as Bellefield to Go, which offers ready meals at convenient locations. Renowned executive chef Robbie Joseph, the force of nature behind these delectable delights, also captains the eponymous Robbie Joseph Catering Service and the on-site restaurant that provides absolutely divine flavours.
Known for consistency in quality offerings and service, Bellefield has carved out an enviable place on the gastronomic scene in Montego Bay. The restaurant has been serving up a wide array of ambrosial fare, making it widely respected and revered. There aren’t enough words to describe the delectable offerings that will leave you thoroughly satiated, whatever your palate preferences.
Chef Robbie Joseph has created an exquisite menu featuring classic international dishes alongside traditional Jamaican cuisine to satisfy even the most discerning tastebuds. Seafood offerings include conch, lobster, fish, salmon and shrimp. Pastas, New York sirloin steak, teriyaki pork chops and, of course, Jamaican favourites — jerk chicken, curry goat and oxtail — are all exquisitely prepared with the distinctive Robbie Joseph seal of quality and consistency.
Bella Bellefield is well worth a visit.
