History in a bottle

Rum lovers are in for a treat! For the first time in almost 300 years, National Rums of Jamaica (NRJ) has released its first bottled single marque/single vintage from the Long Pond Distillery. It’s a nod to International Rum Day.

The Long Pond ITP 15-Year-Old is a single vintage super-premium Jamaican rum.

“[It] will have consumers [feeling] enriched, accomplished, elegant, and confident. The rum’s history is interwoven with hard work, longevity, aged excellence, and a passion for creating the finest rum,” says NRJ’s Chief Marketing Officer Dr Debbian Spence-Minott.

Described as “the essence of Trelawny’s history in a bottle”.

The first bottled single marque/single vintage from the Long Pond Distiller, the Long Pong ITP is not a blend of rums from any other distillery. Aptly described as “the essence of Trelawny’s history in a bottle”, it was aged in charred American oak barrels for 15 years. During that time, the marque matured by reacting with wood constituents. Only barrels carefully selected by the master blender were used. This premium multi-sensorial rum is unique as the John Dore Pot Still used to produce its distinctive rum marque can only be found at the Long Pond Distillery located in Clark’s Town, Trelawny.

“The ITP boasts a funky, spicy aroma that highlights the multi-sensorial nature of the quality expression. For taste, the flavour of warm molasses and allspice gives the palate a taste of oak with caramel notes, providing a sweetly rich, crisp, and stunning finish based on the copper pot character. The ITP, 15-Year-old, was created to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks,” says Master Blender Robert Gordon.

This historic offering of the Long Pond ITP-15 is available under the Long Pond Seal of Approval which expects to get a fillip from its release. “The introduction of this new rum will provide the Long Pond brand with an opportunity to strengthen its reputation of providing iconic, authentic, premium, and quality Jamaican rums. We anticipate that having introduced this expression, a plethora of consumers globally will be enticed by the heritage surrounding the distillery in keeping with the vision of our company’s core values and of course, brand Jamaica” says NRJ CEO Martha Miller.

Long Pond Distillers, one of the two remaining distilleries in the parish, is known worldwide for its flavourful pot still rums. Since 1753, the distillery has prided itself on providing premium Jamaican bulk rum blends for not only the award-winning Monymusk Plantation expressions but other premium brands worldwide.
