The newly developed ROK Hotel in downtown Kingston, Jamaica, opens its doors on July 19, a move seen as a boost to the revitalisation and redevelopment of the busy commercial district.

Formerly the Oceana Hotel, the 168-room property is located on the corner of Ocean Boulevard and King Street.

“We believe that this is a major step in the right direction in the pursuit of a destination city and a tourism city. It’s also a major step in creating life in the downtown of the city,” said Mayor of Kingston, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams.

Mayor Williams said the municipality continues to pursue avenues to build out downtown Kingston, and welcomed players who have been investing in the redevelopment of the area.

“We have to continue to work at resolving challenges, so that it is easier for investors to make the investment downtown,” Mayor Williams noted.

“The fact that more and more private persons are investing in… the downtown space, says to us that something is happening, and people are visioning and seeing,” he added.

Located in the downtown art district, the hotel overlooks the Kingston Waterfront and Harbour. The National Gallery of Jamaica is across the street, and the Jamaica Conference Centre is two blocks away. It is 16 km from the Norman Manley International Airport. It has an outdoor pool and bar and a fitness centre.
