Sangster International Airport (SIA), Jamaica’s leading gateway to the world operated by MBJ Airports Limited, has again been named the Caribbean’s Leading Airport by World Travel Awards (WTA).

The award was presented at the World Travel Awards 2022. This is the 14th consecutive year, and 15 in total that SIA has copped the prestigious award.  The accolade was first bestowed on SIA in 2005, then again in 2009 after which the title has been won every year since. It was among 12 Caribbean competitors nominated this year.

The red carpet evening was hosted at Sandals Montego Bay, with the elite of the travel industry gathered to find out who among them had been crowned the best in the Caribbean and the Americas.

“We are thrilled that Jamaica’s main gateway to the world has once again been named the Caribbean’s Leading Airport at the 2022 World Travel Awards. Congratulations to the management, staff and stakeholders at SIA who have all contributed to this remarkable achievement consistently since 2009. The commitment of “Team Sangster” to service excellence continues to be noticed and we will endeavour to deliver the highest standards to our customers. We also want to thank all who voted us number one in the region,” he said.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, MBJ has led a number of initiatives over the past two years to improve the passenger experience. Several transformational projects are now underway to further expand and upgrade the airport.

Passenger traffic at SIA over the last few months is comparable to 2019 numbers month over month.
