HAVE you ever had a swim in the crystal clear waters of the Roaring River in Westmoreland? It’s a good way to cool off this summer and it’s just one of the fun things to do during the Rasta Safari Experience.
What to expect:
The tour begins with a welcome rum punch, followed by a concise but thorough tutorial on how to safely ride the dune buggies that you will use to get around the Roaring River community. Feel free to stop and chat with any of the friendly residents you see as you ride through the lush hills and valleys refreshed by inviting streams of water.
Who should go:
Open since 2017, the tour is popular with tourists who want an authentic Jamaican experience. Operator Phillipe De Bellefeuille says it’s also the perfect spot for locals who have limited experience with life in the countryside.
High points:
The dune buggy ride includes stops to learn about the local flora and fauna, with chances to sample sugar cane and fruit that are in season. There’s also a stop at a small cannabis farm where the various strains of the weed and its medicinal purposes are explained. Another highlight of the day is an ‘ital’ meal, made from all natural ingredients.
A dip in the river is a must during the Rasta Safari Experience. A visit to a small cannabis farm to learn about the strains of the medicinal herb is part of the experience.
Good to know:
Children are welcome and there are others from the community they can play with while the adults tour the cannabis farm. A valid driver’s licence is needed to operate the dune buggies.
