Onya Tinglin has been to almost every river and beach in Jamaica. It was part of the work she had to put in when building her company Saskia Skyers Adventure, Travel, and Tours.

She now does brisk business providing international tours through her four-year-old company and has been to more than 20 countries; but LetsTravelCaribbean.com wanted to find out what were her top five local spots and why. Here’s what she had to say:

1. YS Falls, St Elizabeth

This is a breathtaking natural wonder that seamlessly blends tranquillity and excitement. Nestled within lush surroundings, it offers more than just a visual feast; it features a refreshing mineral spring pool for a truly invigorating experience. Beyond the falls, YS offers a range of exhilarating activities, including zip lining, making it a perfect destination for adventure seekers. It has a thoughtful local rate and activities suitable for all ages.

2. Reggae Falls, St Thomas

This spot is a beauty and what makes the experience even more special is its contribution to the local community. During my last visit, there was no cover charge; instead, visitors are encouraged to support the local community that works diligently to maintain the area’s cleanliness. This unique approach not only allows you to witness the splendour of Reggae Falls but also actively participate in sustaining the well-being of the surrounding community.

3. Fish Dunn and Cascade Falls

These bodies of water in Portland form a captivating network of multiple waterfalls. Some are easily accessible, offering a relaxed experience, while others beckon the more adventurous with a bit of hiking. Regardless of the chosen path, the journey unveils a refreshing and awe-inspiring natural wonder. Explore the cascading beauty, take in the tranquil surroundings, and immerse yourself in the enchantment of these stunning falls in Portland.

4. Appleton Estate in St Elizabeth

This offers an exceptional experience for couples seeking a romantic break and large groups looking for an immersive experience. Whether you’re exploring the rich history of rum production, savouring exquisite blends, or enjoying the scenic estate grounds, Appleton provides an ideal setting for shared moments and group enjoyment.

Best memory: I enjoyed the rum tasting at Appleton Estate and seeing how rum was made.

5. Eits Café in St Andrew

This café is a quintessential hillside retreat, offering a charming dining experience amid the cool hills. Ideal for a leisurely Sunday brunch or a delightful dinner, Eits Cafe boasts a menu featuring natural and locally produced food items.
