In the final of our three-part exploration — courtesy of Island Routes — of Jamwest Motorsports & Adventure Park, we bring you highlights of the Jeep safari tour.
It all begins with a ride, in the back of a colourful but rugged jeep, that gets the blood pumping! That takes you to the mangrove rainforest swamp, the natural habitat of the endangered Jamaican yellow boa and crocodiles. Expert tour guides are there to give you all the details as you make your way along the boardwalk to see the animals in the wild.
When you get to Likkle Jack, an oasis within the swamp, be sure to keep an eye out for the Jamaican patoo. These nocturnal masters of disguise do an amazing job of blending in with the trees. It will be a lot easier to spot the African tortoise, the alligator snapping turtle and the splendid hues of a male iguana.
There’s also a lot to learn about local flora and fauna, including the history of ackee. Keep an eye out for birds gracefully cutting through the air or perched on the limbs of lush trees above.
Tours last about 90 minutes and are available every day at 10:00 am, noon, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
