Weathering any storm

Resilience.

It’s a word that comes up in almost every discussion about the tourism industry these days.

Including weather-related events and a pandemic, there have been an estimated 12 major disruptions in the sector in the last half a century. After the bruising from COVID-19, stakeholders are now focused on ensuring that they weather, emerge and recover from future interruptions much faster than they have in the past.

In this month’s edition of LetsTravelCaribbean.com, we look at the work being done by the Global Tourism Resilience & Crisis Management Centre and the index it intends to launch to measure just how prepared destinations are for the next major disruption.

We also look at the role a regional airline and multi-destination tourism will play in positioning a resilient Caribbean as a force to be reckoned with, and if the issues of nationalism will stand in the way.

We check in with Chukka Caribbean Adventures which has bounced back well, post-pandemic, an excellent example of the synergies needed for that much-touted multi-destination push that is seen as a vital part of the way forward.

And executive chairman of Sandals Resorts International, Adam Stewart weighs in on the need to get back to the unity shown, during the shared battle with COVID-19, in order to move the industry forward along the path to resilience.
